Potassium Bisulfite for Medicine

Potassium bisulfite, also known as potassium bisulfate, is an inorganic chemical product with the molecular formula KHSO3. Potassium bisulfite is an inorganic compound. Used as a fungicide in the production of alcoholic beverages, it has been approved by the European Union as a food additive. The synthesis method is to send SO2 into a cold saturated aqueous potassium carbonate solution until no CO2 is produced and the solution becomes acidic. During operation, it should be cooled sufficiently and attention should be paid to air isolation. By adding approximately the same amount of ethanol to the concentrated aqueous solution prepared in the above operation, a large amount of potassium bisulfite crystals can be precipitated. The crystals were filtered and washed with ethanol, then placed on filter paper and dried in a stream of nitrogen. Uses: Used as a fungicide in the production of alcoholic beverages. It is commonly used as an analytical reagent and reducing agent, and is also used in the pharmaceutical industry. White crystalline powder. It has strong reducing properties and will gradually be oxidized to sulfate in the air. Decompose when heated to 190°C. Easily soluble in water but insoluble in ethanol. It is easily oxidized into sulfate in the air. Corrosive. It is acidic when soluble in water.
