Phenylhydrazine hydrochloride drugs are white or light yellow crystalline powder. In analytical chemistry, it is used to identify sugars and aldehydes, and to manufacture drugs and dyes. It is made of phenylhydrazine and hydrochloric acid. Easily soluble in water, ethanol and ether. After storage, it gradually turns brown. It is easier to change the color when exposed to bright places.

Phenylhydrazine hydrochloride is prepared by diazotizing aniline and sodium nitrite in an acid medium at low temperature to generate diazonium chloride. Nitrous chloride is reduced by ammonium bisulfite and ammonium bicarbonate to generate diazonium Sodium disulfonate. After acid analysis, phenylhydrazine acid is generated. It mainly includes the two-step process of aniline diazotization and diazobenzene chloride.

Phenylhydrazine hydrochloride is an intermediate chemical raw material used in the synthesis of dyes and drugs. It is moderately toxic and can be absorbed through the respiratory tract, gastrointestinal tract and skin. The oral LD50 of rats is 188mg/kg, and the oral toxicity dose is about 0.2g. After entering the human body, phenylhydrazine hydrochloride mainly acts through phenylhydrazine. Phenylhydrazine is an oxidant, which can oxidize hemoglobin in red blood cells into methemoglobin, rearrange its molecules into methemoglobin, and then become irreversible hemoglobin. With the binding of band-3 protein to hemoglobin and the "propagation" of this interaction on the membrane, the formation of Heinz bodies on the membrane is caused. Due to the lack of flexibility and poor deformability of the membrane, it is easy to hemolyze in the body.
